Carpet Cleaning Dirty Tricks Exposed

If You’re Looking To Hire A Carpet Cleaner You Should Read This First…

“Carpet Cleaners
Dirty Tricks Exposed”
A Former Certified And Licensed Carpet Cleaner Spills The Beans On The Entire Carpet Cleaning Industry And Has Every Crooked Carpet Cleaner Foaming At The Mouth With Rage...

For the first time ever the truth is revealed.

This former carpet cleaner who has over 16 years experience as a certified and licensed carpet cleaner is giving you the inside scoop of the carpet cleaners top dirty tricks and how to avoid them while showing you how to hire a true professional without risking one single dime and save you money at the same time.

... So you must read each and every word of this page, because...

"You've Been Lied-To...
And Ripped-Off...
For The Very Last Time..."

Here’s Their Top Dirty Tricks
1. You are quoted a cheap price. Sometimes 2, 3 or even up to 10 times cheaper than other carpet cleaners. This is the most common dirty trick. They quote you low but bump the price up later. It’s called bait and switch. In some countries it’s illegal. It’s where you’re quoted one price over the phone but when the technician arrives and completes the work you end up paying much more for the carpet cleaning and the things that should have been included in the first place.

2. You specifically asked for a certified and licensed trained professionals. But when they arrived at your home and if you remembered to ask they didn’t have any proof that they were accredited apart from saying so. A true professional will always carry or be able to prove to you they are licensed technicians. Would you hire an un certified electrician? Are your carpets just as expensive as your electrical work? If you think about it they are most likely even more expensive.

3. Did you ask if they have some kind of written Guarantee and can you see it? Most of these con artists will tell you all the stuff you want to hear over the phone but when they arrive at your home they will typically have nothing. A good, honest and reputable carpet cleaner will always be associated with some kind of Written Guarantee. If you get something you were not expecting to pay for then why should you pay for it? If you were told your new Mercedes Bens was going to be a Mercedes Bens but when it arrived it was a Ford or a Holden, would you pay for it and not bother?

4. Do they use portables or a truck mount? Insist on a good quality truck mount to be used. This is a good one especially now as even truck mount machines are so different in the quality of their performance. The truth is just like anything else…most often if something requires a larger investment it usually will be a much better asset. Some of the larger and newer truck mounts (valued at around $50,000) will out perform their smaller and older brothers by a staggering amount. A portable can never come close to a good truck mount. It’s like trying to compare a push bike to a super bike on the race track…there is just no comparison. The carpet cleaner will try and trick you into believing the portable or small truck mount is just as good but it just is NOT.

5. It’s not unusual for a carpet cleaner to lie to you on the phone and then again in your home. Unfortunately this industry has its fair share of bad apples as I call it and unless you have the guidance of an industry professional or you are experienced in this field you just could never know until it’s too late.

So Here’s Two Solutions
The sometimes difficult & hard way: You can start dialling the phone and try to hire someone honest…Use the five techniques I recommend at the beginning of my web site and that will help guide you in the right direction. Remember to ask and see their credentials in writing. Most won’t have them and give you some lame excuse. I hope you will be too smart to fall for that. Lastly be sure to see a solid guarantee in writing…this is always a challenge for any less then honest carpet cleaner.
Or
The easy way: Call me and I’ll personally get you…a certified and licensed owner-operator who is a true industry professional, a solid quote over the phone and my special 100% money back and $100 bonus cash guarantee if you're not happy with their workmanship.
call: 1300 764 119 (Sydney Australia Only)
When you call and book before our special bonus runs out I'll also include a special $50 discount voucher to use with your booking. Only available for a limited time.

The Single Most Common Reason
People Dread Hiring a Carpet Cleaner is

The horror stories are true. Most carpet cleaners do NOT know what they’re doing. They use the wrong chemical, they saturate your carpet, they cause discoloration and you get an awful job. And they cause thousands and thousands of dollars damage, all the time. Then just try to get them back; they avoid you like the plague just like the rest of their victims. All because you innocently tried to save $50 or $100. Yes this does happen...all the time. If the price is cheap, there will ALWAYS be a reason.
Here is the top secret and hidden information that most carpet cleaners DON'T want you to know. Read it now in the Free Consumer Warning before you hire any cleaner. Also see what Choice Magazine had to say about hiring a carpet cleaner. Why did the ACCC take a carpet cleaner to court? CLICK HERE and find out.

The majority of carpet cleaning operations out there are honest and reputable. Unfortunately the "bait & switch" carpet cleaners tarnish the entire industry.

On the bright side "Bait & Switch" cleaners aren't around for very long. The old adage "If it's too good to be true... certainly applies here.
It always best to ask for referrals from friends and family.

The only problem that I have with this blog is that, yes there are alot of bait and switch companies out here. I have been cleaning carpet and furniture for over 27 years I have seen every trick in the book. The cheap price trick? Not always true! I started my company Quality Carpet Care Inc. with the concern of too high of prices. I have all truck mounted units with a couple of base units that I can pull out for high rises, motels, and hotels etc. Low prices are not a trick. I paid cash for all of my equipment, I mean no financing of any kind. Let's be honest about pricing, it DOES NOT COST ALOT TO CLEAN CARPET!!! Some people have no overhead except for payroll, tax's, insurance, gas chemicals and training. I was tired of hearing about companies ripping folks off by charging a arm and leg. I have plenty of business new and repeat that keep my fleet of 5 trucks on the road every day at a low price. I am not bothered by my low prices, $69.95 for 4 rooms and a hall. All my employees are factory trained technicians and have the credentials to back it up. Id badges work wonders! I get people asking me everyday how can I charge so less than other cleaners? It is simple why go out and buy brand new equipment, new truck mounts, new vans? The answer is crawl before you walk!!!!! When there is a new guy in town that charges a arm and leg wanting to make millions off peolple who do not know better I cringe! Like I said before it does not cost a lot of money to clean a 3000 sqft house!!!!! Ask youself this, if you have the right training and right equipment and it only cost you five to ten dollars in chemicals and you are charging customers over two hundred dollars to clean their carpets who is ripping who off? I know it is about profit but come on. Just because you have low prices does not mean it is a trick! I have and will keep taking customers from national recognized franchises especially now with the economy. As far as portables go, that is also not true, it all depends on the tech doing the cleaning if he/she wants to get it clean then it will get clean.

DMS is an owner operated carpet & upholstery cleaning service that takes great pride in offering you the best service possible. We have been servicing Fairfield County ,Connecticut for twenty years, and in this industry, you do not last this long unless your doing something right. With this amount of experience ,your carpeting and/or upholstery will be cleaned the right way with a proven steam cleaning process.
We use a carpet cleaning system called a "truck mount" .This steam cleaning machine produces high heat, pressure and vacuum. The steam cleaning method happens to be preferred by most carpet manufacturers (in fact some warranties are voided if this type of system is not used for maintenance). By using such powerful cleaning equipment , we are able to get out more stains/soil then your average cleaner without the use of harmful toxic cleaning products.

A carpet cleaning business is rather detailed. I'm not sure of your experience, but you'll have to know a lot about stains and how to properly treat them and such, also what best to use on what types of carpets. The ones connected to vans are much more convienent for doing a lot of houses throughout one day. As far as "best", you're not really comparing apples to apples if you're talking about a basic smaller one coming from a department store. Carpet Cleaners

I am a carpet cleaner in Minneapolis, MN and I agree with most of this article. At my business Clifford the Carpet Cleaner Minneapolis we are the antonym! We strive to maintain the highest standards, have years of diverse experience and stay on top of the latest developments in chemicals and tools. The problem is that all some carpet cleaners care about is making money. That's where you as the consumer need to figure out what the business owner is all about. Is he/she just looking to make fast money? How do they clean the carpet? Many cleaners in the Minneapolis area rely too heavily on chemicals and use dirty rinse water. It's important to be informed if you want value rather than just a cheap cleaning. Thanks for your article.

I know that sometimes you get what you pay for, but it isn't always true. Some companies are better or more efficient than others at what they do. Heaven's Best Carpet Cleaning is cheaper because we don't waste a lot of water and don't have to pay a lot to corporate headquarters for the franchise license.

20Thank You for taking the time to write your article on Carpet Cleaning Scams. I Managing Member of Mayberry’s LLC or Mayberry’s Maids here in Las Vegas Nevada and Time After Time I see the Carpet Cleaning Company Following our cleaning crews, come in and FRAZZLE the customer. The customer is usually moving out in this Scenario and has a budget, they will see a sign attached to a phone poll or stuck in the ground promising $7 to $10 dollars per room, But when the Carpet Cleaning Company arrives Look Out the price sky rockets with This Chemical or That Procedure we have seen customers get overwhelmed and sometimes Intimidated into signing up. A job that they budgeted for $200 or $300 becomes quickly $500 and sometimes $700. After seeing this over and over again I asked my pears in the carpet cleaning business why they do business this way ? The answer was simple and without pause or being articulate “ That’s the way its Done” than I began to ask more questions of them like “If you used every chemical you have in your arsenal how much would you have to charge per room to make a modest profit“ The answers varied from cleaner to cleaner but the census was about $40 per room. “Why don’t you advertise $40 per room” I asked the Cleaners “Because That’s Not The Way its done” I get it people are use to seeing these advertisements for $5 and $10 per room and It will be a difficult sell ! to be up front with the actual price will shock people at first It’s a long and difficult road ahead for us But, If you would please check us out at http:/www.WeCleanLasVegasCarpets.com/ and give me any feed back you have this is my answer to Bait and Switch campaigns.

Carpet Cleaning Scams
Like every industry, the carpet cleaning industry has its share of bad companies. Although the majority of the companies are honest, there are some that are looking to scam the consumer. This article will help you identify the unethical carpet cleaners and help you avoid getting ripped off by a scam.

Bait and Switch
This is the classic carpet cleaning rip-off. In this scam, the customer is lured in by a ridiculously low priced carpet cleaning. Often the advertisement you read will offer carpet cleaning in the neighborhood of $5 per room. There is no way that a company can be profitable selling its services that low. But the companies usually have no intention of leaving your home with only the advertised amount. So how do they increase the bill after you have taken the "bait" of the low price?

Preconditioning Scam
One way they will increase the bill is by selling you preconditioning. Most legitimate companies include this in their pricing. That low price they offered probably didn't include it. It may have been $5 per room to clean it with water only but pre-conditioning will cost you an additional 25 cents per square foot. Considering an average room size of 150 square feet, that would be $37.50 per room extra. So a 5 room home would go from the advertised carpet cleaning price of $25 to $212.50. Quite a difference.

But what if you just refuse to pay for the pre-conditioning? Chances are you will get a substandard cleaning or a rush job, but their is another way that they can try to force you into paying for the pre-conditioning. They may offer to do a demo for you. This isn't necessarily bad, many good carpet cleaning companies do demos. What Bait and Switch companies will do however is clean an area in a highly visible area. If you decide to not pay for the extra service, you will have an extra clean spot in the middle of your carpet that will stick out like a sore thumb. By doing this you are forced to pay the extra price.

Extra Room Scam
Another way for Bait and Switch companies to increase their bill is through extra room charges. If you use a coupon, you must read the fine print. Some companies will charge extra for rooms over 100 square feet of carpet for example. It is hard to find a room in a typical home under that square footage, so that means the typical room will count as two and the typical living room or family room will count as three or even four rooms.

Hi Mark,
I think it is great that consumers can read something like and start to be informed about the tricks that exist out there. The number one thing we are asked as the leading carpet cleaning training company in Australia is - "When will customers start asking carpet cleaners if they are qualified?" Customers are starting to wise up to the bait and switch approaches. In Australia there is still a great deal of this going on.
I would suggest that consumers ask:
1. Do you belong to the National Upholstery, Carpet Cleaners and Restorers Association?
2. Do you have a nationally recognised carpet cleaning qualification? Can you please show me some evidence of this?
Once customers understand that by asking these 2 questions they are ensuring that they have a skilled and insured carpet cleaning professional the "bait and switch" approach will hopefully die.
In this world you get what you pay for - when you pay peanuts you get monkeys. With professional training, professional equipment and chemicals and continuing professional development it is simply impossible to offer rock bottom prices. People who invest deserve to be paid accordingly.
Thanks Mark for your work in promoting professionalism in the carpet cleaning industry.

I have this idea of a story like this stated:
"Exploited by professional rug dry cleaners for over 15 years with proved public presentation, this industrial carpet cleaning product is at once useable to the public through these special offers.

A synergistic blend of microbial cultures that are producers of specific enzymes responsible for the break down of urine and fecal matter. These bacteria have been selectively enriched through uric acid environments to survive and digest the toughest urine stains.

Beachside Chem-dry is also much safer than other urine stain products because it doesn't contain the any harsh chemicals that can stay in your carpet after the application process."

And now it is exposed and revealed! I mean this is an informative one source.

Drier. Cleaner. Healthier.
Chem-Dry is Drier.

Carpet cleaned the Chem-Dry way is left clean and dry within 1 to 2 hours, not the 1 to 2 days other cleaning methods such as steam cleaning require. Instead of pumping excessive amounts of water into your carpet and attempting to suck it back out, Chem-Dry uses a carbonating cleaning solution so effective we only need to use approximately one-fifth to one-tenth of the moisture steam cleaners use. As well, the ingredients used in our cleaner are copied from Mother Nature herself. We don’t need soaps, detergents, or harsh chemicals to accomplish our great cleaning results because we’ve got the power of crystal clear carbonating bubbles.

Chem-Dry Cleans Deeper.

The awesome cleaning power of carbonating solutions creates a powerful reaction that deep cleans carpet in a safe and gentle way—and because the bubbles work for us, Chem-Dry does not need to use soapy cleaning chemicals. Often these soaps leave behind a sticky residue that attracts dirt and grime, making them dirtier faster.
The Power of Carbonation
Chem-Dry is a More Healthy System.

Many people believe the best way to clean their carpet is to soak it, and then suck the water back out, the method commonly known as steam cleaning; however, this soggy approach to cleaning may have some serious drawbacks. For steam cleaners to get your carpet clean, they have to force excessive amounts of water into it which, when left behind, can create a breeding ground for mold and bacteria in just hours. It can also leave behind chemicals and soapy, dirt-attracting residue.

Chem-Dry, on the other hand, uses minimal amounts of moisture that dries up in only 1 to 2 hours. This reduces the possibility of bacteria buildup due to moisture creating a healthier environment for your home. As well, our cleaning solution does not leave behind a sticky residue for dirt to be attracted to, leaving your carpet cleaner longer.

Chem-Dry's Carbonating Secret Revealed

The secret to Chem-Dry’s healthier, more thorough clean is the millions of microscopic, carbonating cleaning bubbles in our cleaner we call The Natural®. The carbonating solutions penetrate deep into the base of the carpet, literally exploding dirt and grime off of the fiber's surface. Then, we use hot water extraction to lift the dirty particles to the surface where they are whisked away.

This concept is almost identical to that of using club soda to remove a stain from a shirt. The awesome cleaning power of carbonating solutions creates a powerful reaction that deep cleans carpets and upholstery in a safe and gentle way.

The cleaning method available for carpet is bonnet cleaning. In this place of a brush we use bonnet is used to scrub the carpet. It also cleans one area at a time. This method takes more time to finish and does not actually remove the dirt but spreads it around the different areas of the carpet.

We all know how daunting cleaning a rug with a childs vomit or dirt can be. Tip, rather than using carpet cleaner and scrubbing your time away. Simply take the rug outside and lightly spray with carpet cleaner, then spray down with a high pressure cleaner or strong hose and leave to dry. You will find your rug/carpet is not only clean but smells fresh and feels soft. sure you will shorten its life a little, but its better than putting up with a smelly worn looking rug that looks old anyway.

For more tips google “clearview cleaning Sydney” and visit our tips page.

Peter, thanks for putting up this tremendous consumers blog to protect the public.

In our local trading area here in Victoria BC, Canada there is one particular rug dealer that also "cleans" area rugs. His particular trick is to do a switch with the rug he takes in with an inferior, but similier rug, and this is no accident as I have had a number of clients tell me about the same "accident"
I think his fraudulent games have finally cought up with him now as he is now going out of business for good! (and not a moment too soon I might add)

Great info. It's always important to research a professional carpet cleaner's reputation before working with them. For quick carpet spills, always remember the ABC's:
* Act quickly to remove large particles of food or other matter as soon as possible.
* Blot wet spills repeatedly with a white cloth or paper towel to absorb liquid.
* Clean from the outside in (toward the center of the spot or stain) to avoid spreading.

This outsourcing is a very important decision because of the priority and nature of work to be done Start by throwing out any expired foods. I use only hot water and a little dishwashing liquid to get my white tile floors sparkling. I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! Keep up the good work.
